RV Types and Insurance
RV insurance covers four types of vehicles, and each can be relatively modest or more luxurious, though the largest RVs tend to be the fanciest.
Class A RVs are typically top-of-the-line vehicles built on a commercial truck or bus chassis. Many are like houses on wheels and expand with slide-outs when stationary. They often have a kitchen, washer and dryer, full-screen TV, sleep eight people, and have other appointments.
Class B RVs sit on full-size van frames and sleep one or two people. They typically include a galley with a burner, a small refrigerator, and a bathroom. The seating and living spaces are often converted into sleeping areas.
Despite the name, Class C RVs are between Classes A and B in length and weight and are built on a cutaway truck chassis. They commonly include sleeping space over the cab and amenities ranging from modest to near-luxury.
Towable RVs, also called fifth-wheel campers, are pulled by trucks with a fifth-wheel attachment. Towable RVs can be nearly as large and luxurious as Class A RVs. Unlike Class A, B, and C RVs, towable RV insurance covers only the RV, while the truck’s insurance covers the liability and auto-related insurance needs.
